A time series is a data set that references to a set of time steps or zero-dimensional temporal regions.

Sub classes:
Definition:
A generation time series is a time series that describes the specific electricity generation of a particular power plant.

Definition:
A scenario time series is a time series that contains data about a specific scenario year.

Definition:
A typical period is a time series that represents a couple of real time periods that have certain characteristics in common, e.g. seasonal specifications, weekly routines, etc. It doesn't refer to a real date. Typical periods are used to reduce computing time of energy system models.

Definition:
A weather time series is a time series that contains data about a specific meteorological year.

Back to the super classes:
Definition:
A data item that is an aggregate of other data items of the same type that have something in common. Averages and distributions can be determined for data sets.

2009/10/23 Alan Ruttenberg. The intention is that this term represent collections of like data. So this isn't for, e.g. the whole contents of a cel file, which includes parameters, metadata etc. This is more like java arrays of a certain rather specific type
